Good morning people who walk with and follow the beautiful example of Jesus.

Luke 3:21a NIV When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too…

Jesus was baptised by John, and the baptism of John was the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins (Luke 3:3).

Jesus never sinned, therefore, Jesus had no need to repent. If you follow this correct way of thinking, we must conclude that Jesus did not need to be baptised for the reasons that we are baptised.

So, why did Jesus choose to be baptised?

The most important reason is found in the following account from the Gospel of Matthew:

Matthew 3:15 NIV Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

What is righteousness?

Righteousness is being in right standing with God.

How do we be righteous?

By having faith in God and obeying God.

Jesus was baptised because the Father told Him to be baptised. Jesus trusted His Father and knew that His Father’s will was what He desired most in His life. Obedience is not always about whether or not we need to do a certain thing. Sometimes it is simply because our heavenly Father told us to do it.

Jesus is the most wonderful example for us to follow this year.
