Good morning people who look to see God throughout the pages of the Bible.
Psalm 119:18 NIV Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
The word law referred to here – and in many of these Old Testament passages – refers to the precepts of God, especially the Pentateuch, which are the first five Books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
The words wonderful things means to separate, that is distinguish as well as wonderful, to be marvellous.
For many, the Old Testament – including but not limited to some of the Books in the Pentateuch – are given less value than the Gospels and the Epistles. Now, it is important that we understand that the whole Bible points to Jesus Christ. Therefore, we will definitely get a lot out of these New Testament Books that talk about Jesus, His life and His ministry, as well as the early church and the focus on Jesus.
That said, there are marvellous and wonderful things that are essentially needed in the law in order for us to grow in spiritual maturity. There are ‘first mentions’ of many truths that are still valid today that we find in the first five Books of the Bible. These are not mere options or suggestions, but they are what God created and what He intended.
In addition to what God created and established as truth, the greatest wonderful thing we see powerfully is the clear image of who God is. The story of God is found on every page. We see God as the Creator, the Redeemer, the Pursuer and Lover of His people. Wonderful things also speaks of the miracles and works of God. The pages of the Law are filled with evidence of our supernatural God!
For the person who has eyes to see, we will be drawn into the heart of God through the law of God.
