Good morning people with real needs
We pray to the Father, with a right perspective and a right motivation. Then we can confidently make our requests known to God.
Luke 11:2-4 He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your Name, Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”
It is far too easy to confuse wants and needs.
When we pray after the pattern that Jesus told His disciples, we deal with the area of selfish motivation before we make our requests of God. This is essential and it is the only wise way to pray. A petition to God for our needs that follows sincerely the words Your kingdom come, is bound to be met with God’s action.
If you’re anything like me, this right focus will at times reveal that what I considered a need was in fact a want, which was very reasonable but not vitally essential in light of eternity. The distinction between genuine needs and heartfelt wants can be so very subtle, and that is why it is imperative we know the mind of God in the moment.
I encourage you to pause and consider that need you have been praying about for awhile. Is it really a need? Was it authored by God as you prayed for His kingdom to come?
