#931 – Your Kingdom

Good morning people who want things God’s way

Jesus instructs us to pray to the Father and to focus on the spiritual reality of Who He is. He then makes clear what our motivation should always be in prayer.

Luke 11:2-4 He said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your Name, Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”

Three words…Your kingdom come. Three of the most powerful words ever to be uttered when spoken from a heart that truly means them. These are the words that should reflect the motivation of our prayers and indeed our whole lives.

These three words declare I want Your will to be done in this situation I am praying about, and not my own desires.

Praying from our own desires is dangerous.

Firstly they are often selfish. Let’s be honest. I know I have prayed many selfish prayers in my life. I can be well-intentioned and selfish at the same time. I need to know what God wants to happen in my situation.

Secondly they are damaging. Oftentimes people blame God when their prayers aren’t answered. Little do we realise that our prayers might have been authored in our own desire and not God’s. God is only obligated to fulfil that which He authored.

In order for our prayers to be answered by God in accordance with His will, we need to pray Your kingdom come
