Good morning people wanting to discover God’s heart
The wayward son decided to return home. What would he find? How would he be met? Would he be turned away for having rejected his father or would he be allowed to serve like one of the hired men? What would his fate be?
How about us? When we have strayed from God and want to come home, how will our heavenly Father treat us? How about those who have never encountered the Father’s heart?
The truth is the Father’s heart for us is so different to what we think.
Luke 15:20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
This is just the start of the father’s incredible response to his son! There is more to come but let’s start by looking closely at what we see here about the father’s heart towards his son and our heavenly Father’s heart towards us.
The first thing I see is the father is keeping watch for his son’s return.
Our heavenly Father has not given up on us and forgotten about us because we have done too many wrong things. No, He is ever watching and ever waiting for the return of His wayward children.
And He does not wait in order to punish us as we so often think. God waits in order to show compassion, mercy and grace. This is the heart of God for us. This compassion is not a light feeling or a fleeting sentiment. This is a deep yearning, an intense desire for the good of someone else. This is the Father’s heart for all of His creation. God is looking out for you and He is filled with compassion for you today.
