#662 – Submit to her

Good morning people who trust God

Genesis 16:7-10 The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. And he said, “Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?” “I’m running away from my mistress Sarai,” she answered. Then the angel of the LORD told her, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count.”

Sometimes we hold this false belief that we only need to submit to ‘godly’ authority; you know, authority that always does the right thing.

This is not what the Bible says. (See 1 Peter 2:13-25 for a clear passage on this).

Abram did the wrong thing by giving Sarai permission to treat Hagar any way she wanted. Sarai did the wrong thing by mistreating Hagar. God knew Hagar had been mistreated by this ‘man and woman of God’. Yet God said “Go back to your mistress and submit to her”. This is a difficult passage for us to accept
