Good morning people who honour God
Genesis 13:12-13 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.
Lot pitched his tent near Sodom which was known for its wickedness and great sin against the Lord. It’s interesting to note that Lot pitched his tent ‘near’ Sodom; ‘near’ a place of wickedness and great sin. He probably thought, “I won’t go there, but being close won’t hurt, after all, I’m not actually doing anything wrong”.
What is our mentality to sin? Do we get as close as possible without crossing the line? Or do we stay as far away as possible? I believe living ‘close to the line without crossing it’ reveals something in the heart that is based on a wrong theology of God. Surely as people purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ and as ones having received the love of God, we would want to be as far away from that which grieves His heart as possible. For many who live ‘close to the line’, it’s just a matter of time until the line is crossed.
Genesis 14:12 They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.
Lot started off living ‘near’ Sodom and now we read he is living ‘in’ Sodom.
As children of the light, I encourage us all to walk in the light as He is in the light (Ephesians 5:8, 1 John 1:7).
