Good morning people with a heart after God
Genesis 8:20-21 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
The Bible says ‘every inclination of man’s heart is evil from childhood’. That’s quite a sobering thought. But it’s in accepting that our human nature, our unsubmitted Christ nature, is at its core, evil, that we can choose to live in freedom.
1. We must ask God to change our hearts because our default is sin. The Psalmist cried out to God and prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, Oh God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). We are also told in Jeremiah 17:6 that ‘the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?’ More effort from me is not enough; I need God to do some heart surgery. And the thing is, I need Him to do it daily; again and again. Even with Christ, it is too easy to default to wrong thinking. That’s why the next point is so important also.
2. We must learn the godly way to live from God’s Word. You’ve heard me say it before and you will hear me say it again and again: we must KNOW God’s Word and how He has called us to live. It is a continual washing by the Word that is needed in all of our lives. It is soaking that needs to take place, and in the truest sense, brain washing
