Good morning people who value rest
Joshua 3:1-2 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. After three days the officers went throughout the camp…
The Israelites had a big task ahead of them; a task that would be physically taxing on everyone. There was going to be a lot of walking, as well as the emotional toll of taking a city. I think there is wisdom in this passage for us all when approaching a big event in our personal lives.
They went into their season of busyness from a place of rest.
Now I know that this is not always possible. Many times busyness and challenges come upon us out of the blue. One decision by someone in a company can demand a lot of scrambling and sorting out. Leaders in a church may find themselves in an instant busy season due to a situation that must be dealt with now. These times, in their varied forms, happen to us all.
We can cope with these unexpected busy times best when we have incorporated regular times of rest into our lives. Rest needs to become a priority for every one of us. Many leaders think they are too busy to rest. As mentioned there are seasons where rest eludes us but if this becomes a lifestyle, it needs to be adjusted. Jesus needed daily rest and so do you.
When we know there are busy seasons coming up and we can plan for them, taking time to go into it rested will go a long way to avoiding unnecessary burnout.
Do you take some regular rest and is it a priority to you? If you are married, what would your spouse say?
