#6034 – Fear God

Good morning people who choose to honour God regardless of the potential personal cost.

Pharoah set his heart against the Hebrews who were increasing even under great persecution. One of his strategies to do this was by instructing the Hebrew midwives to kill every male child born to the children of Israel.

But the midwives feared God and chose to honour Him above the order of the king.

Exodus 1:17 NIV The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.

What I am drawn to is what God did for these precious women as a result of their choice to fear and honour Him.

Exodus 1:20-21 NIV So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.

I want to say two things.

Firstly, things do not always work out as we would like when we put God first. Sometimes the result is persecution – and as it was for many in the Bible – even unto death. We fear and honour God because it is the right thing to do.

But secondly, putting God first most definitely does release the kindness of God in our lives, and at times, this looks like the favour that we desire to see. Praise God for His goodness!

What do you do when you are instructed to do something that is contrary to God’s stated will?

May we be people who choose to fear God regardless of the outcome.
