#6020 – Healthy Breaks

Good morning people who take time to rest in the Lord on your holiday.

At this time of year, many people are taking a break. Holiday time is in full swing. Work is going on hold, and there is a lot of family time, fun time and eating time. It’s time to let the hair down and enjoy a breather.

I personally am taking a break (I have pre-written this so that I can enjoy some time off). But as I was heading towards time off, I heard the Lord say these words to me:

We need to take healthy breaks (rest), otherwise we will take unhealthy breaks (compromise).

Rest is from God; it is His design and plan. Rest is biblical and it should be a regular healthy part of our lives. Ceasing work is a part of this, and we see this clearly in the example of God:

Genesis 2:1-3 NIV Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

God rested. We should rest too.

But the truth is that during times of “rest”, we can easily become slack. Most people don’t intentionally take a rest from God, but this can subtly happen if we are not intentional.

When we rest from God, we are more susceptible to making poor choices; compromising choices.

Here’s my simple encouragement to you as you enjoy this holiday season: Feed yourself on what will draw you closer to God. Yes, have fun, exercise, hang out with friends, cease work, but don’t rest from God – rest IN God.

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV “Come to me (Jesus), all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
