Good morning people who do not let circumstances dictate to God’s purpose.
Genesis 45:4-9 NIV Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay.
This is one of my favourite passages in Joseph’s story and it is one of the greatest statements of God-focus in the Bible.
Joseph did not ignore what his brothers had done to him. He was not, “it’s all good; it’s ok”. No. He made it clear that they sold him into slavery.
Trusting God does not ignore what others have done.
But this is not what got Joseph’s greatest focus.
Joseph followed the acknowledgement of what his brothers did to him with the truth that God was always at work in his life. This is a game-changer for us all.
Here’s what I hear in the words of Joseph from this scripture:
Divine purpose is greater than natural circumstances.
I also see this essential truth:
God is greater than people.
No weapon, no delay, no abuse, no imprisonment, no false accusation can stop the God of purpose fulfilling His purpose in our lives when we stay focused on Him and submitted to Him!
This is the truth according to God’s Word.
