#6006 – From God

Good morning people who point people to the Author of all that is good.

Genesis 41:15-16 NIV Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”

There’s so much in here!

Pharaoh heard that Joseph could interpret dreams. It is true that the interpretation came through Joseph, but it did not come from Joseph. The interpretation came from God.

I’m struck that this was an opportunity for Joseph to boast a little. He could have easily replied, “Yes, I can interpret dreams.” But he didn’t. Joseph did not share God’s glory with himself.

I’m challenged.

It’s not just that Joseph pointed Pharaoh to God. It’s that he said, “I cannot do it (interpret dreams).” Again, the evidence to others was that Joseph could interpret dreams.

People often look at us when we move in the gifts and the power of the Spirit. This is understandable for them as they only see the vessel.

But what do we do when they do this? Do we intentionally, humbly and honestly point them to the truth that ‘we can’t’” Do we declare “this is God”?

This is what Jesus said:

John 15:5 NIV “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Do you truly believe that you can do nothing eternally worthwhile outside of God doing it through you?

May we all walk humbly with God and before people. May we also walk confidently so that God can be glorified through us.
