Good morning people who God can use wherever you find yourself.
Genesis 39:20-23 NIV Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
Joseph was given a dream by the Lord about a life that was prosperous. It was a powerful dream and it would have had a sense of YES in young Joseph’s heart. I’m sure he was feeling ready to step straight into “greatness”.
But then his brothers abuse him and betray him. They sold him as a slave and he ended up serving in a foreign land alone and misunderstood. I hear him say, “Surely this is not what you meant Lord?!”
But God poured His favour out on Joseph because of the integrity of Joseph’s heart and life. God blessed him in Potiphar’s house to the point of everything being entrusted into Joseph’s care. What favour! What grace! Surely, this was the turnaround – the greatness prophesied was coming.
And then came the false accusation of rape! And not just that, but it came when he intentionally honoured God in secret and when he fled from temptation. Surely, his master would believe him when he explained it. But no, he ended up in prison, and this was much worse than serving in the house!
What will Joseph do now? Surely, he will give up on God now, right? After all, God had let him down.
But that is not what we see because it is not what Joseph thought (we will see this clearly later in the story of Joseph).
In prison, Joseph purposed to have the same heart as he had in Potiphar’s house. He was faithful to his God and he walked in integrity with people. God was still with him and God poured out more favour on him.
The result was the same in prison as it had been in Potiphar’s house! Everything was entrusted into his hands! Stop and think about this my friends: a prisoner was put in charge of the prison. This doesn’t happen! BUT GOD!
Your present reality is not greater than your ever-present God! I declare that God wants to shine in you and through you, yes, even in the midst of betrayal and pain. May God be glorified through us all as He was through Joseph in prison.
