Good morning people who choose to honour God in every moment and situation.
Genesis 39:16-20a NIV She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.” When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
Walking in integrity always honours God, and yet, sometimes it doesn’t go well for us. I know this sounds wrong, but it is important we paint an accurate picture of what it means to follow God and to honour Him.
It was one thing for Potiphar’s wife to accuse Joseph – this was an accurate reflection of her character. But it was another thing altogether for Potiphar to immediately believe his wife’s accusation when he had seen firsthand the integrity and godliness of this young man (it’s important to remember Genesis 39:2-6).
Potiphar believed a false accusation and followed this with immediate imprisonment.
God’s favour is not seen or measured by the degree of absence of problems. Jesus died on a cross, Paul was stoned and beaten and imprisoned, and most of the disciples were martyred for their faith.
Hebrews 11 paints a vivid picture of people who lived and died in faith. And it is the last three words of the previous sentence that strikes me as most important – they died in faith. In other words, despite all that they went through for honouring God, they still believed in God and believed God when they stepped from this life into eternity.
People can accuse, people can condemn, and people can even cause us great harm and suffering. But people cannot steal our faith, our hope, or our confidence in God! People cannot steal our eternal rewards, in fact, our response in times like Joseph went through can be the very thing that gives us a greater heavenly reward!
May our lives testify about God and His goodness even in the midst of the darkest valleys. May our integrity speak for itself as we refuse to be derailed in our faith or open the door to bitterness and hatred. May Love Himself lead us as we draw upon His strength.
