#598 – Godly Leaders

Good morning people who lead well

Every one of us will probably lead something sometime in our lives. How will we lead? How should we lead?

Joshua 1:10 So Joshua ordered the officers of the people.

Because Joshua had heard from God, he was empowered to lead confidently. I believe this is essential for leadership. You must be sure of what God has asked you to do. Then when you lead it is not so much about ‘you’ leading but rather you being faithful to what God has told you to do. Leadership is largely about stewardship.

Jesus spoke confidently and with authority. Joshua spoke confidently and with authority. Moses spoke confidently and with authority. Paul spoke confidently and with authority. We need confident leaders and true confidence is based in whose authority you are under, not just your leadership gift.

So here’s my question to us all today. Are we under the authority of Jesus Christ? Is He truly our Lord (supreme in authority; that is controller) as well as our Saviour? And do we submit well to those leaders above us?

The Centurion understood this principle well and Jesus commended him for his faith.

Matthew 8:9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

My security as a leader is not primarily my leadership gift but that I am under the Lord’s authority and I love being under my father, David’s authority.
