Good morning people who are learning to keep in step with the Holy Spirit.
I declare that there are godly assignments with your name on them.
Many people ask my wife and I to minister into their church or to speak into their lives. Every invitation is a privilege, and every opportunity would be wonderful to do.
But there has been a shift in our focus this year from invitations to assignments.
There is an interesting little verse in the Book of Acts. Here’s what it says:
Acts 16:6 NIV Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.
Surely, preaching the Word anywhere would always be what the Holy Spirit wanted Paul to do! Yet this verse tells us that the Holy Spirit told Paul and his companions to not go to Asia and preach at that particular time.
Why would the Holy Spirit do this?
The answer is because the Holy Spirit had a different assignment for them (you can read this in the following verses). This was not the difference between good and bad, but rather, it was the difference between an invitation and an assignment.
This is not just for ministers of the Word. Please hear this. Whether you work in a factory or an office, a church or the mission field, Father has good works prepared in advance for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). This is what is called an assignment!
We will only know and fulfil our God-given assignments if we keep in step with the Spirit. We will only keep in step with the Spirit if we believe that we need Him in every moment, and that He always has a plan for us.
May we all be people who frequently ask the question, “What next Father?”
