#577 – Perfect Forever

Good morning perfect people

Now what I’m about to say sounds like it goes against things I have taught but listen to this truth; it’s awesome!

Hebrews 10:14Because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Now understanding these words is imperative.

The word ‘perfect’ here is talking about being ‘complete’. My problem has been focusing on perfection from the perspective of ‘never doing anything wrong’. That’s what I wanted and I wanted it passionately. Why? Because I want to honour God and my human brain equates never doing anything wrong with pleasing God. When I think this, I miss the mark. It’s faith that pleases God, not perfection as I thought of it.

The second word is ‘holy’ which means ‘sanctified or purified’. So look at this verse as it is intended to be read.

Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice and now we are complete in Him forever and we are being purified in the process. God knows we will fall sometimes (Psalm 37:23-24) but we need to know God is refining us, cleaning us, purifying, conforming us to His image. Our responsibility is to respond to Him; let Him initiate it but do it from a place of accepting all He has done.
