Old Testament sacrifices were required annually but Jesus Christ came, once for all, and took every sin that would ever be committed and paid for them in full.

Hebrews 10:10-12 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when the Priest (Jesus Christ) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God.

Jesus Christ sat down because His job was done completely. He was able to declare “It is finished!” because it was finished! Sin had been paid for, completely, once for all
