Good morning people of the Word
God told me to ‘push the Word’ more this year so I am going to do just that. I have mentioned the importance of the Word many times and I will speak about it even more. The penny must drop for many of us about the power of the Word in our lives and the need to have it deep in our hearts. Reading is not enough. Knowledge is not enough. Meditation and obedience is essential.
This year here’s four disciplines every disciple of Jesus should develop more:
1. Memorise the Word. Jesus fought the enemy by the Word He had in Him. The Psalmist kept from sin because of the Word he had in him. The Word is the most powerful weapon we have, but it must be in us. The Holy Spirit can only recall to our memory what we have put in.
2. Meditate on the Word. We need to give focused attention to the Word, not only when we are reading it, but throughout our day. Meditation is the opposite of and the antidote for worry.
3. Confess the Word. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Thinking about the Word is great but confession is essential. The enemy can’t read your thoughts so you must speak it out, just like Jesus did. When we declare the truth of God’s Word, we are creating life.
4. Obey the Word. Knowledge without obedience is useless, in fact, it’s worse than not knowing because it leads to pride and hypocrisy. Quick obedience to God’s Word is the mark of spiritual maturity.
May we be people of the Word more than ever before.
