#5693 – Receiving Instruction

Good morning people who don’t kick against what is good for you.

Proverbs 1:3 MEV To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity.

To ‘know’ wisdom and instruction, and to ‘perceive’ the words of understanding is essential for Christian living. However, knowing and perceiving must always be accompanied with receiving.

The word receive means to take, to lay hold of, to accept. Knowing and perceiving is essential, but without receiving it, the truth itself lies dormant.

Here’s how James wrote it:

James 1:22 NIV Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

It couldn’t be clearer than this.

We need to remind ourselves that the word instruction is talking about correction and adjustment. People today don’t like this, but we kick against it to our own peril and to the peril of others who know us.

It’s time for the people of God to receive the instruction of the Lord; the instruction of Wisdom Himself.

Our obedience to God is the indicator of whether we have received instruction or not. Some say that they received instruction but decided to do something different. The truth is, in these situations, they have not received instruction at all – they may have heard it, but by its very definition, they have not received it.

How is your commitment to receiving instruction from the Lord?
