#564 – Peace On Earth

Good morning those who desire peace with others

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

It’s easy to ‘let them have a piece of my mind!’ – it’s much more difficult to ‘be a peacemaker’. But oh how we need this in our world today!

Wars are fought everywhere because of our ‘rights’. Sure we can look to the Middle East and sit in judgement but it’s worth looking a little closer to home, and dare I say it, even in the Church. Too often we hear of division, church splits and people ‘falling out of relationship’. There must be a better way.

How important is it to God that we try and live at peace with others? How important is it to God to make a decision to be the peacemaker and not wait for ‘someone else to do it’?

Hebrews 12:14-15 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

I’ll let the Word speak clearly here: it says ‘see to it that no one misses the grace of God’. How do we do this? By making every effort to live in peace with all men. How we treat others can directly affect whether they receive the grace of God or not. Our treatment of others can connect people with God or create a gap.

One last thing; it’s not about our rights. Let’s take the way of humility. Let’s be the initiator of peace. Let’s ask ourselves “How would Jesus have me respond now?” Let’s hear what He says and let’s do it.
