#5637 – Peace & Unity

Good morning people who are one in Christ Jesus with your brothers and sisters.

Ephesians 2:15b-16 NIV …His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

There is a connection between peace and unity. If you don’t have peace, then you lack unity. If you don’t have unity, you won’t have peace.

But peace and unity are often sought in the wrong place and in the wrong way. People try to organise unity. People try to find common ground on issues so that there can be peace. Compromise and pressure are often the ingredients that are used to fuel a false sense of peace and unity.

And yet peace and unity are found in Jesus Christ.

Jesus’ purpose was to create in Himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace. Wow! His purpose was to take people who were on very different pages, and to reconcile them all to God the Father!

The only way He could do this was through the sacrifice of His life. The death and resurrection of Jesus was a unifying and peace-inducing factor that removed all need for hostility and a ‘them and us’ mentality.

We all need Jesus, and we all have access to Jesus. And it is this truth, that when embraced, results in peace and unity.
