#5514 – New Idols

Good morning people who do not follow the destructive patterns of the world.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NIV See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

This is very interesting language, especially the last five words: ‘which you have not known’.

I feel this speaks into the times that we live in, and I’ll do my best to briefly try and explain what I am sensing.

An increasing number of so-called Christians are removing themselves from the blessing of God due to their choice to follow other gods (anything that takes the place of God) – gods which they had not previously known. These gods include, but are not limited to, ‘choosing your own gender’ and ‘sexual relationships with the same sex’.

I know these are touchy subjects, but the bible is clear on God’s design in both of these (and in many other issues that Christians seem to be trying to redefine). It doesn’t work!

The reason I am saying this fits into the category of ‘which you have not known’, is because many Christians now give their approval to what they used to call sin. They have turned away from what God commanded.

What changed?

It wasn’t God and it wasn’t God’s Word; it wasn’t the truth that changed.

In a desire to not condemn others and to not push them away from God – something we should all deeply desire to do – many have wrongly concluded that ‘not calling sin sin’ is somehow loving. It’s not!

It’s time to return to the God of blessing and the blessing of God by coming back under His Lordship. He alone knows best.
