#548 – Seventy Times Seven

Good morning people who God keeps on forgiving

Recently the Holy Spirit took me to the following verse and showed me an important truth.

Matthew 18:21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.”

God said I have translated Peter’s question into my thinking about my heavenly Father. Let me explain.

We can easily believe God has a limited amount of grace and forgiveness. He does not. Peter thought he was being generous forgiving someone up to seven times but Jesus made it clear “No, keep on forgiving”. Jesus was speaking to human relationships but the Holy Spirit said He was reflecting the heart of the Father in His answer.

We can’t comprehend this because we think humanly and “enough is enough!” We have a “strike three; you’re out!” mentaility because we get ‘sick’ of people hurting us. The truth is our focus goes from the people to the ongoing hurt. We think God does the same with us.

God is different. His focus always stays on the person; the person He delights in and loves. Now Paul makes it clear that we don’t keep on sinning just because there is plenty of grace, but the equal truth is there is more than enough grace for all of us.

Do you feel you have gone too far? Do you feel you have fallen too many times? Do you feel God must have had enough of you by now?

Well He hasn’t. God wants to be closer than a brother to all of us in 2010. He wants us to have a revelation of His love, pleasure, delight and ongoing grace and forgiveness for us. Let’s move towards Him and let’s allow Him to love us as He desires.
