#542 – Humbled For Us

Good morning Christ followers

Isaiah 53:2-3 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.

This is what Almighty God did for us. He humbled Himself. He made Himself nothing and He did it for us. He put aside His beauty and His majesty and became a ‘common’ man. He who should be worshipped and adored was despised and rejected. He was not rejected by someone greater and more powerful but He was rejected by those He created; mere men. The One who, in His very presence there is fullness of joy, became a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering. He went through agony. He suffered shame. We did not adore Him. We did not esteem Him.

Our God, our Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ did this for us. Today we celebrate His birth and as we do, let’s reflect on the extent of His sacrifice. Let’s give thanks and let’s celebrate what this extreme sacrifice means for us. Let’s give our lives to be living epistles of the Christ we honour and love.

May the joy of the Lord and the gift of the Son bring us so much pleasure this day as we say “Thank You” to the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
