Good morning people whose God feeds, guides and shields you.
Psalms 23:1 NIV The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
As I meditate on this truth that the Lord is my shepherd, I am drawn towards the Hebrew word that is used here, as well as some other translations of this beautiful and empowering verse. Here’s some things I see.
The Hebrew word for shepherd means both ‘tending and leading a flock’, but it also means ‘to associate with as a friend and to keep company with.’ I find this so delightful!
Shepherds put their lives on the line for their flocks, and our shepherd literally laid down His life for us so that we could live in Him! We can’t get any better or any more involved than that!
The Amplified Bible tells us that the shepherd ‘feeds, guides and shields’ his sheep. Our Lord does all three of these things with us as His people, His children and His friends.
As I meditate further, I see that the shepherd is fully committed to the well-being of his sheep. Being a shepherd is not a part time job, nor is it dependent upon the weather or any other circumstances. The shepherd is a shepherd – that’s who he is. And the sheep are the recipients of a shepherd’s love and commitment.
Well, the Lord is our shepherd! Now that’s good news!
