#5273 – Look to See

Good morning people who see the goodness of God through the Word of God.

Psalms 119:17-18 NIV Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

We don’t spend time in God’s Word so that we can be good. We spend time in God’s Word because God is good!

The goodness of God is the most wonderful fuel and motivator in life. It’s His goodness that draws us into His Word, and it’s His goodness that we see and discover more in His Word.

The Bible is a precious letter of love from the God of love. It is an expression of who He is. It reveals His nature and character. It reveals His heart towards us and the measures that He goes to in order to redeem us into right relationship with Himself.

But we must have eyes to see this as we spend time in God’s Word.

The writer of this Psalm asks the Lord to ‘open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.’

He is acknowledging that He can read the words on the page and yet not see what God has intended him to see. He can read God’s Word through eyes of obligation – a symptom that is common to many.

My encouragement to us all today is to echo this verse as a heartfelt prayer to God.

Be good to your servant while I live, that I may obey your word. Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

May we see through the eyes of our good and loving Father.
