#5186 – Speaking What He Hears

Good morning people who hear the Father speaking through the Holy Spirit.

John 16:12-13 NIV “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Jesus had more to say, and yet He left without downloading every part of truth. He then sent the Holy Spirit to us to guide us into all the truth. Praise God!

But we must understand that the Holy Spirit wasn’t primarily sent to confirm what we want to hear. This is a make or break issue for many believers today who desperately want to hear God speak.

Jesus told us ahead of time that the Holy Spirit will only speak what He hears. Please think about this dear friends.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God; He is God the Spirit. Therefore, surely He can just say anything He wants, and it is truth and it is what is needed. On one hand, yes, this is true. But we see again in these words of Jesus the absolute and perfect unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit – like Jesus – exists in submission to the Father’s will. What an incredible example to us as ones who are created beings!

And the Holy Spirit only speaks what He hears from the Father. Therefore, our greatest desire in prayer and listening to God speak should not be to hear what we want to hear, but to hear what God wants to say.

After all, that’s all that the Holy Spirit is commissioned to speak.
