Good morning people who enjoy God’s love through your obedience to what He says.
John 15:10 NIV “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”
We are saved by grace through faith, not of works, so no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). This is absolutely true. None of us can be good enough to earn God’s favour and the gift of salvation.
Once saved, we are sustained by grace through faith too.
So, what is Jesus saying here?
Firstly, Jesus tells us plainly that He remains in His Father’s perfect love by keeping His Father’s commands. It is always good to see the example of Jesus with His Father. We must never forget that Jesus was the Son of God, yet He had no problem fully submitting to His Father’s will. It wasn’t easy, but He chose to do this, and by doing so, enjoyed the sweetness of His Father’s love in His life.
We are called to live the same way.
Positionally, God does not stop loving us if we disobey Him. This is not a works-based relationship. We need to make sure we are anchored to this right theology.
But what happens when we disobey God is, we often step back from Him and feel unworthy to approach Him. In other words, our obedience keeps us in God’s love because we don’t move position away from Him through guilt, shame or fear. It’s us that moves, not God.
And Jesus and His Father – our Father – don’t want this for us. They want us to remain in their love, and obedience to them empowers this in our lives.
