#5133 – Jesus Asks His Father

Good morning people who are recipients of the request of Jesus to His Father.

John 14:16-17 NIV And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

‘Jesus asked His Father.’ These words are powerful and insightful.

Jesus did not demand that His Father do what He wanted. Sometimes I can get a bit demanding with God, but Jesus doesn’t, and He’s the Son of God!

The more I read through this chapter, the more I see such humility in Jesus. I do not see a son fighting for His rights. Rather, I see a submitted Son, an honouring Son, a humble Son.

But this humility was the furthest thing from weakness. I don’t think anyone can accuse Jesus of being weak. What a wonderful example to us today.

Jesus asked His Father to send us the Holy Spirit.

Jesus knew that His return to heaven was quickly approaching. Jesus knew that we needed to continue to walk with God while we are on the earth. Jesus walked alongside people. Now He was asking His Father to send the Holy Spirit to live in people and to be our ever present connection to the Father.

The Holy Spirit knows the heart of the Father and the heart of Jesus. He is one with both the Father and the Son. Together, the three of them are in perfect oneness.

And so Jesus knew that the Holy Spirit living in us was a step forward, not a step backwards. Jesus wasn’t asking His Father for His second best, but He was asking for His best. This is the truth of the Holy Spirit living in us! And this is the result of Jesus asking His Father on our behalf.
