#5120 – Knowing the Father

Good morning children of our loving perfect Father.

John 14:7 NIVIf you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Once again – and you will see it is many more times in the verses and chapters to come – Jesus is rightfully pointing us to His Father; to our Father.

I hear Jesus saying, “If you know Me, you will end up at My desired destination for you; in addition to knowing Me, you will know My Father as well. This is what I want for you. This is where I am taking you.”

I feel that Jesus is stating that He is inseparable from His Father. Some claim to know the Father and not believe that Jesus is the Son of God. This is impossible. Conversely, some may believe in Jesus but not in a Heavenly Father. Again, from Jesus’ stated truth, this is not possible.

Father and Son – our Father and our Saviour – this is who we need. Both, together, in perfect unity and oneness. This is the truth about God.

Jesus said this to His disciples. These were people who were literally walking with Him 24/7 for several years. They knew Jesus intimately. They loved Jesus. They honoured Jesus. And this is absolutely wonderful and right. May this be the testimony of our lives too.

But it was because of this intimate closeness with Him that Jesus had to stress the importance of our relationship with our Father in heaven. He knew that people could be content just being with Him. Again, it’s awesome to be with Jesus, but He knew something beyond what we or His disciples knew.

Jesus knew that we need our Father. This is not just a nice addition to knowing Jesus; it’s not an optional extra. It is life itself. It is truth itself. We need to know our Father.

So, how do we know our Father? What is He like?

Jesus answers this clearly, so let’s look at it over coming days.
