#5116 – Jesus the Way

Good morning people who are promised eternal life in Jesus.

John 14:3-6 NIV “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This is very interesting.

Jesus did not say, “You know where I am going.” He said, “You know the way to the place where I am going.”

To this, Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” In other words, Thomas was saying, “The most important thing is for us to know where You are going. We don’t know that, so it’s impossible for us to know the way to the unknown.”

Jesus’ often quoted reply is so much more powerful in the context of what was just said. Jesus didn’t clarify the where – He gave context to the how by pointing to the Who. Jesus replied, “I am the way.”

We don’t need to know everything about our journey, either here on earth or in eternity to come. We don’t need to fully understand how it all looks, or even how everything we are going through will turn out. It would be nice, but it’s not the most essential need.

We need to know the way to the end goal, and the way is Jesus Christ. He is the way.

If we are walking with Jesus daily, we will end up in the place where He desires us to be. This is where our confidence must lie. It’s not in our understanding of where or what. It is in our revelation of who we are privileged and honoured to walk with.

Eternity in our Father’s house awaits, and Jesus is the way.
