#5114 – Trustworthy God

Good morning people who have an eternal home with God.

John 14:3 NIV “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

In this verse, Jesus declares to His disciples, “I will come back and take you to be with me.” What a beautiful promise to them. What a beautiful promise to us.

But the focus I want to draw our attention to today is this:

When Jesus speaks, He can be trusted. He is the Truth and all that He speaks is the truth.

Here’s another promise Jesus has made; a promise that we can put our confidence in today:

Matthew 11:28-30 NIV “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus promises to give us rest for our souls if we come to Him. He can be trusted to do this.

However, when we read the words of Jesus, too often our focus is on what is required of us. We wrongly conclude it is about us having it all together and about us being good enough. There is an enemy behind this lie.

The truth is, Jesus simply says “Come to me.” That’s our starting point and that’s the requirement. Come.

And when you come to Jesus, stay connected (yoked) to Him and learn from Him; learn about Him; get to know who He truly is. This is where the true rest comes from – from who Jesus is.

Jesus is gentle, and He is humble in heart. He is kind and patient and compassionate and loving. He is full of mercy and grace and forgiveness. He is for you and not against you.

All of this is true because the one who is the Truth has spoken it. He can be trusted because He is trustworthy.
