#4989 – Seeking God

Good morning people who earnestly chase after knowing God better.

Hebrews 11:6 NIV And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Believing in the existence of God is essential to pleasing God. But I need you to hear the word of the Lord clearly.

Believing in the existence of God is not enough to please God. The devil and the demons of hell most definitely believe that God exists. They have experienced first-hand their eternal defeat through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! HALLELUJAH!

So, what is the second imperative ingredient to pleasing God as stated in this verse?

God is looking for people who believe He exists and who then give their lives to earnestly seek Him more and more.

This can never be overstated, and yet it is often overlooked.

To seek means to search out, to crave, to investigate.

But this searching, craving and investigating is not a natural pursuit – not at all.

The other word that can be found in the Greek when you look at the word seek is worship – it is a spiritual seeking after God Himself in adoration and awe.

So, this is what I want to lean into over the coming days. I feel a holy call to point us towards God Himself. I believe that an increased focus on Him is the best way to please Him. As John the Baptist said, “God must increase, I must decrease.”

I say, “Yes Lord.”
