#4940 – Working for God

Good morning people who receive a reward from God for how you work.

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

The context of this verse is specifically to do with our place of employment. So, let’s keep on looking to see what God is saying.

There are no exceptions to working for the Lord. If you are mowing lawns, do it as unto the Lord. If you are balancing the books, do it as unto the Lord. If you are teaching a class, do it as unto the Lord. If you are working in retail, do it as unto the Lord.

All of life is to be lived working for the Lord. It is always about His reputation through every word we speak, every action we take, and through every attitude we display. God is to be seen, not just us.

One of the ways that this is empowered is to know that we will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward for how we work in our jobs. I’m not sure you have thought about this before, but I encourage you to meditate on this verse more closely today.

Put another way: We are called to work for a reward from God, not just a pay check from our boss. Now there’s a challenge.

Paul wraps this part of his exhortation up with a very clear statement: It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Whatever your job is, you are serving Christ.

This year, may we all honour God in our jobs and receive the full inheritance that He desires to give us as a reward. And may we walk in God’s grace and Holy Spirit power when it is really difficult. May it all be for the glory of God and the furtherance of His kingdom on earth.
