#4939 – Employment Matters

Good morning people who empower your bosses to know God better.

Colossians 3:22 NIV Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Your job is not primarily a place of work, but a mission field that you are sent into by God.

Now, I believe that we need to honour the work place, and part of the way that we do this is to work when we are paid to work. I have heard some people talk about how much of their work time they spend “witnessing”. We should work when we are paid to work – this itself is a big part of our witness.

Productivity should be up because we are employed. Morale should be up because we are employed. Integrity should be evident because we are employed. Gossip and slander should be down because we are employed.

And this is not just when the boss can see us. The best Christian witnesses in the work place are often the ones who work diligently when no one is around.

And the reason for this is because they have the correct biblical focus: They are working with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. They are not just doing a job, they are on mission representing Christ.

Our work place is not a secular place if we are there. We carry the light! We carry love! We go with the Holy Spirit! God is in our work place when we are there, and as a result, He should be seen, including in our work ethic, whether seen or not.
