#4907 – Worship of Angels

Good morning people who keep your worship for God alone.

Colossians 2:18-19 NIV Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

Now we are getting into some deep truth here, but go with me into God’s Word today.

Everything is meant to be about God. Salvation is in Him. Transformation is in Him. Growth is in Him. Worship is for Him alone.

But some people – then and now – are making it more about things that they claim to have seen in the Spirit that is nothing more than ‘idle notions by their unspiritual mind.’

Angels are awesome! Seriously! Some of the encounters people had with angels in the Bible set them up for a divine purpose that God had authored. I am not against this then, and I’m not against this now.

But any talk about angels that gets into worshipping them or commanding them to do things is simply wrong. The Bible is clear that angels are ministering spirits sent by God – they are not directed by us. And angels worship God – just like we worship God.

Paul states it bluntly and accurately when he says these people ‘have lost connection with the head’, meaning with Christ Himself as the head of the church. And it is all based in false humility, that is, pride. These people want to be noticed, yet our call is to point people towards God.

So, what does Paul mean when he says, “Do not let them disqualify you?”

Let’s chat about it tomorrow.
