#4896 – Most High

Good morning people who place nothing above our Lord Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:8 NIV See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

This is an interesting scripture – one that has a deeper meaning than most might initially see.

On the surface, it might appear that Paul is warning us to not be taken captive through any wrong or bad philosophy. There is absolutely an element of this in this verse, especially with the word deceptive that is used. There are some “reasonable sounding” philosophies that are very damaging to our walk with God. We need to be spiritually attuned to know what is in line with the truth of God’s Word.

But there are also elements of Paul’s warning which are simply human traditions that are not necessarily wrong (if you want to study this further, take a look in Strong’s).

So, what is Paul saying in this verse?

As I leant in and asked the Lord, I felt Him point to the main truth of ensuring nothing – good or bad – is the foundation of our life, except Jesus Christ.

The next verses make this clear, so let’s look at this further tomorrow.
