Good morning people in the shadow of the Almighty
Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
When we remain in the protection of the One who is Most High, we are promised rest. What an amazing promise we are enjoying in this passage! Such depth, such truth, such life to all those who hear and receive God’s promise! Help us Lord to hear and understand.
But where do we find that rest? It’s not in the busyness; the tasks that need to be done, the lists, the events, the programs. It’s not there; you won’t find it, at least not to the degree that God desires.
We find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. What does this word shadow mean to us? It means ‘shade’ like under a large leafy tree. It’s different to shelter. Shelter is about protection from storms and extremes. It’s a word that involves intense situations and in life there are many. But this word ‘shadow’ or ‘shade’ means something different to me. It really goes well with the word ‘rest’. You see when you are out in the sun, enjoying life, having fun with friends and family, you sometimes need a little rest. So if you are like me, you look for some shade to sit in. The sun is still shinning, fun and games are still happening but you get a moment of refreshing. The shade brings a gentle breeze and drops the temperature to a more reasonable level. It’s nice. We sit in the shade and feel the smile of a God who loves us so much. Joy fills our heart as we find rest in the shade…the shade of the Almighty.
