Good morning those who take shelter
Yesterday we looked at ‘he who dwells’ and the need to stay ‘permanently established’. Let’s look at the next phrase of this incredible promise.
Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
In the shelter…this is talking about ‘our hiding place and our protection’. We all need protection from the storms of life. Hurt comes to us in many forms and sometimes there seems to be a flood. In those times, is there a safe place to be? In those times, is there a shelter that can protect us with a guarantee? The answer is yes. The reality is that protection often looks different than we would like. It is often slower and it is often still painful. Maybe that is in part because of our limited understanding as humans; we just want it fixed ‘now!’
But the truth is still the truth and this verse puts the truth into a beautiful promise, one that needs to go deep into our hearts. We do have the promise of a hiding place. We do have the promise of protection, not from all pain but from anything outside of the allowed will of God. The trust issue is huge and it’s not always easy. We have the promise of a shelter but we only experience it when we dwell; when we remain, abide, stay connected. God is near you right now and He alone is your shelter; your hiding place and your protection.
