Good morning people who are part of the larger picture of God’s intention.
Matthew 5:11-12 NIV Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
This is a challenging scripture! There are some verses in the Bible that we gravitate to and that we love to quote and embrace. And then there are verses like this.
But Jesus said them and He said them for a purpose.
Walking with Jesus means that some people will not want to walk with you. In fact, like Jesus who walked with His Father, your commitment to righteousness will result in people insulting you, persecuting you and falsely saying all kinds of evil against you.
I have personally seen an increase of this in my own life over recent times.
But Jesus also gives us a perspective that we need to see clearly today, and this is it: We are not the only ones!
People throughout the centuries have been persecuted because of their stand for God and for the truth. This is not new to us in 2021. Yes, social media and the accessibility of everyone to everything makes it appear like things are so much worse, but persecution for righteousness is not new.
So dear friends of God, it is time to stand firm in our faith and our commitment to Christ. It is time to remember that this is all for Him, including our unwavering commitment to our God in times of trouble.
To God alone be the glory as we live our lives as disciples of Jesus Christ.
