#4735 – God is Lovely

Good morning people who walk with the God who is friendly towards us

Philippians 4:8 NIV Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

We often think that lovely means something is nice. And basically, this is true.

But again, we are not the ones who define what is lovely or what is nice. Some people’s opinions differ dramatically on this subject, and some people even call lovely that which God calls abhorrent.

The most lovely and nice ‘thing’ in existence is God Himself.

Now this is part of the dichotomy of who God is. He is powerful, holy, righteous, just, and has zero tolerance for sin that destroys lives. Yet, He truly is for us and His face is turned towards us! This is the very definition of the word lovely!

The word lovely means friendly towards, and comes from two root words of toward and to be a friend to.

What would happen if we started to daily think about God in these terms towards us as His children?

Jesus Himself summed it up this way:

John 15:15 NIV I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

God is my friend who steps towards me. Now, that is lovely!
