#4717 – Being a Disciple

Good morning people who allow the Spirit to bring realignment

Matthew 16:24 NIV Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

Read the highlighted part of the scripture above. What do you see? I read this recently and saw something with fresh eyes.

Jesus was talking to His disciples. These were people who were already following Him. They had made some decisions. They were on the journey.

And yet Jesus stays to them, “Whoever wants to be my disciple…” And then Jesus paints a vivid picture of how discipleship looks to Him; how discipleship is meant to be to us.

I feel the Lord is saying to those who profess that they are disciples of Jesus:

“Are you a disciple by your definition or by Mine?”

Here’s the three components that Jesus made clear were defining marks of a true disciple of His:

People who deny themselves.

People who take up their cross.

People who follow Jesus.

Let’s dive in deeper to these statements over coming days.
