Good morning people who hunger and thirst

Psalm 23:3b He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

Righteousness is something God gives; it is a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. But it is something that we are told to pursue passionately.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

This is not a passive ‘God can give it to me if He wants to’ attitude. This is a position in life that makes walking a path of righteousness an absolute priority. You see it’s only as we do this that we can truly be free. It’s only as we do this that we can live the life God created us for and as a result find true fulfilment.

Righteousness is the character of God and it takes a ruthlessness to pursue this supernatural work of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Crucifixion was not passive; it was ruthless and complete. Jesus was crucified for us so that we can be righteous. He gives it to us freely but we must crucify our sinful nature and its passions and desires in order to keep in step with God’s Spirit.

Let’s be hungry and thirsty for righteousness
