#451 – He Makes Me

Good morning beloved sheep of the Good Shepherd

Psalm 23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters.

We are people of free will yet the Lord knows that sometimes we need a little gentle persuasion. Sometimes He leads (we’ll look at this tomorrow) and sometimes He puts up a big ‘STOP’ sign in front of us with roadblocks we just can’t get around.

Sometimes we are so busy running a hundred miles an hour in life that God needs to ‘make us lie down’. Sometimes we are busy for Him. Sometimes we are simply caught up in the busyness that this world seems to think is a sign of productivity and success. Sometimes we are caught up in destructive habits and lifestyles. Whatever the situation where we find ourselves a little out of control (and often we don’t even notice it), God comes and ‘makes us lie down’.

Have you ever had one of these moments? Maybe you’re in one now. It might look something like “I’m so busy I can’t afford to stop”, and then something happens that makes you lie down.

Maybe, just maybe, this is God and not the devil or ‘those people’. It is a good idea to ponder this for a moment. We don’t want to find ourselves fighting God because we don’t see His plan.

Finally look where God makes us lie down…in green pastures. At first we don’t see this because we are so focused on that which we have just lost or been stopped from doing. Why not step back if you are in this season and have a look around. You might just be in some beautiful green pastures.
