#4507 – Choose Freedom

Good morning people who have entered into freedom in Christ Jesus

Galatians 5:1 NIV It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

The reason Christ set us free was so that we could walk and live in freedom. This is a foundational truth that is so often misunderstood and overlooked.

Human perfection has replaced freedom in Christ as the goal for many Christians (myself included for much of my life). We have confused ‘God being good enough’ with ‘us being good enough’. The focus has been in the wrong place; it has been on us more than on God.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and the Holy Spirit takes up permanent and sovereign residence in our lives, we are given a new nature, and as a result, we enter into a present reality of freedom; we are free!

But Steve, I don’t feel free?

This is where the ‘renewing of our minds’ comes in. The default ways of thinking that have been polluted and defiled by a persuasive world, need to be replaced by the mind of Christ through saturation and meditation on God’s Word. This is not about striving to make something happen – it has happened in Christ – but it is about our thinking catching up with our spiritual reality of freedom and new life that is in Christ Jesus.

We have the power to choose whether to walk in freedom that is found in the Spirit, or to become a slave again by going back to a focus on the Law.

Today, I choose freedom. How about you?
