#442 – Not From Sin

Good morning people who speak life-giving words

I once read a well-known and much-respected preacher that said “All sickness is a result of sin”. This man of God was wrong. Some well meaning people today say similar things and I do not believe it to be true. Further to that, I think we cause more damage by saying things like this than not speaking at all.

Is it true that some sickness is a result of sin in our lives? Yes, I believe that to be true (especially unforgiveness and bitterness; I believe it can literally ‘rot the bones’).

I also fully believe that there are plenty of instances where sickness is not the result of any wrong doing and the Bible makes this abundantly clear.

John 9:1-3 As He went along, He saw a blind man from birth. His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.”

The disciples focus was on the past; “what did they do wrong?” Jesus’ focus was on the present and the future: “what can I do for him now?” This should be our focus too.

Let’s be people who speak life with our words to all people. Maybe God’s desire is for His power to flow through you as you lay hands on the sick and see them recover. What can you do to help someone who is sick? Do it.
