#4361 – Following Jesus

Good morning people whose hearing translates into following

Luke 5:9-11 NIV For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Simon’s companions in his boat, as well as his partners, James and John in another boat, all heard the instruction of Jesus and saw the miracle of provision.

Yet from reading all of the Gospels, it appears that only Simon, James and John followed Jesus on this day, not the other companions.

There are more people who hear what God says and even see what God says, than there are people who leave everything and follow Jesus.

Hearing is great and hearing is necessary, but hearing is not the sign of being a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ.

Seeing miracles and being part of supernatural provision is also not the sign of being a disciple and follower of Jesus Christ.

Obedience to what God says is the sign of being a disciple, even when the instruction is difficult and it doesn’t make sense.

Are you a true disciple of Jesus Christ?
