Good morning people freed by the mercy of God

Romans 4:25 NIV He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

I was prompted to look at this verse in the original language and I saw two wonderful things.

Firstly the word sin here in the NIV is the word offences in the KJV. Here’s what this verse means: a side slip (lapse or deviation), that is, (unintentional) error or (wilful) transgression: – fall, fault, offence, sin, trespass.

Sometimes I have stressed over things I might have done. Maybe you too stress about sins that are unknown or accidental. In this verse I see such wonderful mercy from God to cover all sins and all falling short.

Secondly I looked at the word justification. This word means: acquittal (for Christ’s sake): – justification.

Here’s what the dictionary says about acquittal: 1. criminal law – the deliverance and release of a person appearing before a court on a charge of crime, as by a finding of not guilty 2. a discharge or release from an obligation, duty, debt, etc.

Here’s how Paul puts it:

Romans 8:1-2 NIV Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Hallelujah!!! Praise God!!!

The final thought from me today is acquittal (for Christ’s sake). Shouldn’t this read acquittal (for our sake)? No, this is making it plain that if Christ’s resurrection did not justify us, then Christ’s death and resurrection would have been in vain…BUT IT’S NOT!!!
